Matthew White dubs Hillsdale, NY as “world class but low key” because of the simple quality of life and the great community of people who love there. Originally a weekender, White is a serious preservationist who saw potential in two dilapidated historic buildings in the village square. After restoration he opened the Hillsdale General Store, and later HGS Home Chef. White’s passion for the town he lives and works in is contagious, attracting like-minded businesses and making Hillsdale a real rural destination. While still active in his interior design firm White Webb, in NYC, he spends the vast majority of his time in Hillsdale. “The Shape of Things” is a series of short stories he has written based his childhood growing up in Texas and his chosen home of Hillsdale NY.
